How it works

A diagnosis, not a score

Anyone can hand back a number. The value is in knowing which line of working lost the mark, which topic it belongs to, and what to do about it before the next paper.

01

Choose the right paper

Full mocks build exam stamina and give a broad diagnosis. Topic tests isolate a single weakness. Past papers are for students who have already worked through the mocks. If you are not sure, start with a full mock, the topic breakdown tells you what to test next.

  • Filter by subject, board and tier
  • Years 7-9 use levelled assignments
  • One free paper per student
02

Sit it under real conditions

The report is only as honest as the conditions. Print the paper, set a timer for the stated duration, remove notes and phones, and write by hand. Students who sit papers open-book get feedback about a version of themselves that will not be in the exam hall.

  • Timed to the real paper length
  • Handwritten, as in the exam
  • No notes, no calculator on non-calc papers
03

Upload in the app

Sign in at app.gcsefeedback.co.uk and photograph each page. Our uploader checks legibility before submission and flags any page that is too dark or cropped, so nothing comes back unmarked.

  • Phone camera is fine
  • Legibility check before submission
  • Multi-page and multi-paper uploads
04

A specialist marks it

Your script is allocated to a marker who teaches that subject and, where possible, that board. They mark against the official mark scheme, annotate the working line by line, and write the report by hand-typed comment rather than from a template bank.

  • UK-based qualified teachers
  • Official mark schemes
  • 10% of scripts second-marked for moderation
05

The report comes back

Within 48 hours you get the annotated script, a mark breakdown per question and per assessment objective, a topic-level percentage, the grade boundary placement for that paper, and three prioritised actions.

  • 48-hour standard turnaround
  • Topic percentages, not just a total
  • Three actions, ranked by mark impact
06

Re-test the gap

The step almost everyone skips. Take the top action, work on it for a week or two, then sit the matching topic test. Movement on a re-test is the only reliable evidence that revision worked.

  • Topic tests from £7.99
  • Progress tracked across papers in the app
  • Recommended re-test window: 10-14 days

Examiner comment

Factorising is secure, but check the sign when you read the root back off the bracket. That single slip cost you 1 mark here and again in Q19.

Who marks, and how we keep it consistent

Marking quality is the whole product, so it is the part we over-engineer.

Recruitment

Every marker is a qualified UK teacher in their subject. Applicants mark three benchmark scripts and are only approved if their marks sit within one mark of the reference standard.

Moderation

One in ten scripts is blind second-marked. Markers whose scores drift are re-benchmarked before taking further scripts, and no marker works outside their subject.

Recourse

If you disagree with a mark, request a free re-mark within 14 days. A second examiner reviews the script without seeing the original marks.
